Extreme heat is expected to descend on the Brainerd lakes area, with heat indices around 100 degrees on Sunday and Monday, June 19-20.

Temperatures in the 90s paired with dew points in the 60s will cause the high heat, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.

Monday is expected to be the hottest day of the week.

The hot temperatures can be dangerous to groups sensitive to heat. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous activities and keep cool in the shade or with air conditioning, the weather service advises.

The weather service said the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature - an indicator of heat related stress on the body at work (or play) in direct sunlight - will be in the low 80s Monday in Cass (82) and Crow Wing (83) counties.

This means people should limit outdoor exercise.

The WBGT takes into account temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle and cloud cover.

When the WBGT is in the mid to upper 70s, people should plan any intense or prolonged outdoor work/exercise with discretion and take plenty of breaks.

When the WBGT is in the mid 80s or higher, people should cancel outdoor work/exercise.
