This is a breaking news update: Officials say two of the victims have died. Two others remain in critical condition.
Four people are in critical condition following an apparent lightning strike across the street from the White House.
The lightning strike hit Lafayette Park, which sits directly across the street from the White House, according to DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Two men and two women were transferred to area hospitals, DC Fire and EMS tweeted.
"All had critical life threatening injuries," the agency tweeted.
A severe thunderstorm hit the DC region around 7p.m. ET Thursday.
