It is officially spooky season at the CBB offices, so this Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co. beer gets dibs at the top this week for cleverly teaming up with the George A. Romero Foundation to bring a style “back from the dead.” JAWN of the Dead is a 6.5% ABV Red Rye IPA with 20% rye malt. This variation on the year-round JAWN American Pale Ale is teeming with Apollo, Ekuanot, Mosaic, and Nuggets hops.

JAWN of the Dead’s icy, undead body is bready and toasty with a spicy bite that accentuates a pronounced bitterness. There is no escape from the notes of pine, berries, and grilled tangerine.

The collaboration beer will serve as a fundraiser for the George A. Romero Foundation with 10% of the proceeds going towards the foundation’s efforts. GARF is dedicated to honoring the life, work, and cultural influence of George A. Romero, the Godfather of Horror and the pioneering filmmaker behind the Night of the Living Dead series. The foundation’s mission is to support the next generation of filmmakers and artists inspired by Romero’s legacy through scholarships and fellowships while also restoring and preserving the filmmaker’s work.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of working in the craft brewing industry has been the ability to collaborate with so many different communities. We continue to think outside of the box and because of that have been able to support the arts and collaborate with fantastic musicians, a drive-in movie theatre, and now a legendary name in the film industry. When the opportunity to work alongside GARF presented itself, it was a ‘no-brainer’. This is our way to celebrate the work of a pioneer in the horror genre and give back to a community that thrives on creativity, innovation, and doing it yourself,” says Kevin Day, resident horror aficionado and Logistics Manager.

To locally celebrate the September 9th release of JAWN of the Dead, Neshaminy Creek will host a screening of “Night of the Living Dead,” at its Croydon taproom and brewery. Guests are encouraged to come in their best zombie attire and makeup to compete for a Neshaminy Creek gift card, a six-pack of JAWN of the Dead, and an event poster in the Best Zombie Costume Contest.

Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of its Once-A-Year hazy double IPA, Hop Cyclone. Hop Cyclone takes its name from a dry-hopping system the Hershey, PA-based brewery has employed for close to a decade. This custom piece of brewing equipment vigorously circulates hops through the fermenter to ensure the hop oils hit every last drop of beer.

Hop Cyclone’s haze starts with a grain bill of pilsner malt, Vienna malt and wheat, which helps prop up hop oils that would normally fall out during fermentation. The hop combination of Citra, Sabro, Simcoe and Sultana conjures notes of ripe pineapple, soft citrus and juicy peach, while London 3 yeast ferments this big Double IPA and bolsters its tropical notes.

The art for Hop Cyclone was designed by Art of Tröegs alum Devin Watson. “For the Hop Cyclone label, I imagined these groovy 60’s hop graphics and seeing them swirl all around the can,” said Watson.

Allagash Brewing Co. announced the launch of Hop Reach – a new IPA developed methodically and meticulously on Allagash’s pilot innovation system. The process that led to this beer’s creation involved the entire company.

“One of the pillars of our brewing process is innovation – in brewing, in ingredients, and in approach. Within the IPA style in particular, there’s a lot of room to create interesting new flavors and experiences,” said Rob Tod, founder, Allagash. “We were excited to put our innovation process to work, creating an IPA with our own spin that appeals to established Allagash fans and curious beer drinkers alike. Hop Reach is our own, uniquely Allagash IPA and we can’t wait for people to enjoy it as much as we do.”

Over the course of seven months, Allagash’s pilot team brewed trial after trial, all of which were put on tap for any employee to taste and review. They also held social events to taste and talk about the beers, garnering over 400 employee reviews, which they factored into each round of new brews. Through this iterative process, Allagash managed to marshal the creative energies of its entire brewery into Hop Reach–a balanced, citrusy, and tropical IPA, with a snap of bitterness.

“Like Allagash White, Hop Reach is made with balance in mind,” added Jason Perkins, brewmaster, Allagash. “That being said, it has big citrusy and tropical hop aromatics that we think will appeal to IPA fans of all stripes.”

Second Chance Beer Company will celebrated its seventh anniversary last weekend with the release of New Day IPA, a West Coast-style IPA and a party at its Carmel Mountain brewery and taproom. New Day IPA has a 6.5% ABV and will be a year-round core beer. It has notes of berries and citrus peel, along with a whisper of pine, from Citra, Mosaic, and Talus hops.

“Seven years is an auspicious number associated with luck and reminds us how fortunate we’ve been to have such amazing support from the community that has helped us give so many pups a second chance through adoption events and fundraisers supporting dog rescues,” Morrison said. “The launch of our new West Coast-style IPA, New Day, also reminds us that every day is a second chance to continue making award-winning beer and using it to get pups their forever homes.”

If you didn’t know, Second Chance donates a portion of all sales to San Diego dog rescues The Animal Pad and Second Chance Dog Rescue, as well as Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue in Mesa, Arizona. Second Chance has donated more than $25,000 to local dog rescues since it opened and facilitated new homes for nearly 100 dogs through adoption events at its tasting rooms.

Mountain Brew is an American Ale (5.5% ABV) brewed in collaboration between R&D Brewing out of Raleigh and Appalachian State University in Boone. Decked out in App State’s black and gold, 16 oz. cans of Mountain Brew will be available at Kidd Brewer Stadium in time for the Mountaineers’ home opener against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sept. 3.

The availability of Mountain Brew represents the entry point for R&D Brewing into the Watauga County and foothills-area of North Carolina. R&D also purchased Bull Durham Beer Co. in 2019.

“Mountain Brew continues our commitment to collaborate with exciting sports brands,” says Rachel Peterson, chief operating officer, R&D Brewing. “We can’t wait to cheer on the Mountaineers with a cold Mountain Brew in hand at the iconic Kidd Brewer Stadium.”

Mighty Swell Spiked Seltzer is launching a variety of new products in late August, including a cool, limited edition Halloween Blood Orange Six-Pack. Additionally, the Austin, Texas-based spiked seltzer company will release a 19.2 ounce single can of hit flavor Tiger’s Blood as well as a seasonal keg of Purple Magic.

“The seltzer innovation cycle typically includes the ubiquitous spring releases, summer pool or party-related, and winter holiday-themed packs,” said Jeana Harrington, CEO of Mighty Swell. “Not all fall drinkers and those heading back to college want cider, pumpkin spice, and Oktoberfest – leaving room for more and interesting innovation. Accordingly, we leaned into late summer and fall releases focused around our Tiger’s Blood, Purple Magic and Blood Orange flavors with an emphasis of Keeping it Weird in their execution.”

The Mighty Swell Halloween Blood Orange six pack is perfect for Halloween parties or simply something to sip while handing out candy. Dark red berry notes complement a foundation of blood orange citrusy-brightness for a scary-good combination. All Mighty Swell products contain all-natural ingredients, and every can is Certified Gluten Free, OU Kosher, vegan friendly, and 100 calories with only three grams of carbs from real fruit juice.

WeldWerks Brewing Co. and Little Man Ice Cream Company are teaming up again to create an ice cream beer that’s inspired by Little Man’s Space Junkie, a delectable ice cream featuring a black raspberry base, marshmallow fluff, the award winning Sweetest Bean Vanilla, and house-made brownies.

Little Man Space Junkie Sour is the third beer in their collaboration series and will join WeldWerks’ outstanding pastry sour portfolio, along with other “I can’t believe it tastes just like it” favorites like Key Lime Pie and Strawberry Cheesecake.

“Space Junkie is one of my favorite flavors from Little Man Ice Cream and as a brewer, what better way to honor your favorite ice cream than to turn it into a beer?” says WeldWerks Head Brewer Skip Schwartz. “With the black raspberry melding perfectly with the marshmallows and brownies, I felt the flavor combination would be a unique pastry sour that will close out the last bit of summer.”

Little Man Space Junkie Sour is a sour ale brewed with Little Man Space Junkie ice cream, Little Man house-made brownies, black raspberry puree, vanilla, marshmallow, and milk sugar.  At an approachable 4.1% ABV, this dessert-like sour is the perfect cap to a summer well spent.
